Key Facts -  CFP® Board-Registered Education Program  


 

 

  The five courses in the Certificate in Financial Planning Program  - FP21, FP22, FP23, FP24 & FP25 can be taken in any order.  All courses are taught at the graduate level of study, and it is  recommend that students obtain at least one of the following before enrolling in the program (1) a graduate degree,  (2) an undergraduate degree in accounting, business, economics or finance, or (3) a written confirmation from CFP Board that the individual has satisfied the experience requirement necessary to become a CFP® certificant. 

 

  Courses are scheduled throughout the year. Courses are scheduled on a rotating basis at each locale.  At most locales the entire Certificate in Financial Planning Program can be completed in one calendar year.

 

  All 5 courses could  be completed in less than a year, but most students take from 18 to 24 months to complete the coursework. All coursework must be completed within 6 years.

 

   Interested in taking some CFP® Board-Registered Education Courses for Academic credit?  Through a preferred transfer arrangement with the Graham School of  Management  at St. Xavier University (SXU), up to three academic courses that are comparable to our FP22, FP23, FP24 & FP25 can be taken at SXU and transferred over to the Certificate in Financial Planning Program.   Please contact our Program Director at (630) 809-5502 for details.       

 

  Interested in distance learning?  If so, we have a preferred transfer arrangement with Florida State University (FSU) that allows up to three distance learning courses that are comparable to our FP22, FP23, FP24 & FP25 to be taken online from FSU and transferred over to the Certificate in Financial Planning Program.  Please contact the Program Director at (630) 809-5502 for details.

   For CFP®  Board-Registered Education Courses completed at colleges, universities, or professional organizations other than FSU, NCC, or SXU  students can, for a nominal fee, seek an exemption from up to two of the five required courses in the Certificate in Financial Planning Program through the Waiver by Course Transfer process.  If you seek a Waiver by Course Transfer, please obtain an official transcript from the CFP Board- Registered Education Program you previously attended, and forward it to the Curriculum Coordinator.  You may also seek a Waiver by Transcript Review for other financial course work that you have taken.  To do this please consult the Guide to CFP® Certification that is available from CFP Board  to determine the required submissions to be made to CFP Board. If you receive a positive written recommendation from CFP Board, you may forward it to the Program Director for processing.  For further details contact the Program Director at (630) 809-5502. 

 

   Course costs may be eligible for Lifetime Learning Credits on your U.S. federal income taxes.   

 

  Each course in the Certificate in Financial Planning Program is designed to provide 30 hours of participant submitted  classroom CPE credit  for CPA’s, CLU’s  and  EA’s . 

 

  Broker-Dealers should note that each course in the Certificate in Financial Planning Program has been designed to meet FINRA-mandated annual firm continuing education requirements. (See NASD notice 95-13 for details).

 

  When  you  have successfully finished all of the coursework for the Certificate in Financial Planning Program ,  your matriculation will be reported to the CFP Board and you  will  be sent a letter evidencing  completion of a CFP Board-Registered Program that can be submitted with your application to sit  for the CFP® Certification Examination 

 


Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., owns the marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ and federally registered CFP (with flame logo) ® , which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.   

North Central College et  al., does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame logo) ® marks.  CFP certification is granted only by Certified  Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience and examination requirements. .
